Crossroads

Big meeting fifty miles away, three o clock start. Crunch time on a business proposition, it might be, go ahead please. On the other hand it might be, no thank you. Or it might be, psychologically more draining, maybe later.

The best place to be in the lead up to such moments, on a motorcycle. The road uncluttered, a steady eighty over rolling hills. Motion and solitude and and regular routines and freedom from irritations, soothing and salving.

On the journey, gathering strength for the forthcoming test. A crossroads moment imminent, will they say yes, will they say no. Such moments, regular occurrences in an active life, you need your own personal way to deal with them. Days of yore, sucker for snake oil nostrums, used to visualize success, then when things didn’t work out, desolation. A failure of imagination, the world’s a big place and can accommodate things not always working out, and so must you.

For some reason, a sudden slowing of traffic, stationary cars stretched over the valley below and the hill beyond. Motorcycle changing down once, twice, three times, braking, there are lots of hidden dangers here, easy to misjudge speed, also, the queues tend to fishtail at the back, cars changing lanes, themselves adjusting to the new rhythms.

Okay, arrived. Motorcycle parked, changed into suit and tie. Soon we’ll find out, which impostor is it going to be, triumph or disaster. Whatever, the motorcycle journey home will be a good way to clear the head.

Going into the meeting, smiles, shaking hands, oh, next time you come in, don’t bother with the suit and tie, we dress informally here, as you can see. Gee what a fine start to a crossroads meeting, looks like the plan is to do some sort of business.

On the motorcycle riding home, ebullient mood, but experienced as to the mind traps. Still the necessity of making things work. Starting with this motorcycle journey, take it easy with the speed dammit.
